AIRPORT SHOE SHINE TIME

This morning I was picking up my wife and her Aunt Diane at the Columbus Airport. I planned the entire morning so I could arrive at the airport 15 minutes early, to enjoy a luxury: have a shoe shine. As soon as I walked into the terminal, the shoe shine stand was not there, looked around and found it a few feet away from it's old spot. Then the disappointment came into to play, two shoe shine guys, two chairs and both were taken along with two guys in line. I waited and had to leave or be punished for not being at baggage carousel #3. Young shoe shine guys now wear latex gloves instead of applying the polish where they leave a fingerprint or two.
If you want to see some interesting artwork, take a walk down the hallway to the CMH's restrooms next to Cup O' Joe. The artwork displayed was by Curtis Goldstein. Click here for Curtis' blog.
Why is coffee some times referred to as a "Cup of Joe": Josephus Daniels (1862_1948) was appointed Secretary of the U.S. Navy by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913. Among his numerous reforms of the Navy was the abolition of the officers wine mess. From that time on, the strongest drink aboard navy ships was coffee and over the years, a cup of coffee became known as "a cup of Joe".
