Should Toddlers Use Tablets & Smartphones....................
From Time Tech:
"The
American Academy of Pediatrics has repeatedly warned that screen time for children under the
age of 2 is a no-no. Why? Research suggests it delays language development and
can disrupt sleep. Generally speaking, we know that interacting directly and
routinely with your child is paramount when it comes to hitting established
developmental milestones. In fact, a recent story in the New York Times referenced
research by academics Betty Hart and Todd Risley (published in the 1995
book Meaningful Differences in the Everyday Experience of Young American
Children), who found that the more parents spoke to their children and the
broader the parents’ vocabulary, the higher the child’s IQ and the better he or
she performed in school"

Newark-Heath Airport not just for small planes....
Yesterday as I was driving down Heath Road, Heath, Oho I saw this beautiful jet speeding down the runway. Most people in our community do not realize what an asset and well used airport we have in Licking County.

You’ve been a flight attendant too long
if….
1. You can eat a 4 course meal standing at the kitchen counter.
2. You search for a button to flush the toilet .
3. You look for the “crew line” at the grocery store.
4. You can pack for a 2 week trip to Europe in 1 roll-aboard.
5. All of your pens have different hotel names on them
6. You NEVER unpack
7. You can recognize pilots by the backs of their heads-but not by their faces
8. You can tell from 70 yards away if a piece of luggage will fit in the overhead bin
9. You care about the local news in a city three states away
10. You can tie a neck scarf 36 ways
11. You know at least 25 uses for air sickness bags-none of which pertain to vomit
12. You understand and actually use the 24-hour clock
13. You own 2 sets of uniforms: fat and thin
14. You don’t think in “months”-you think in “bid sheets”
15. You always point with two fingers
16. You get a little too excited by certain types of ice
17. You stand at the front door and politely say “Buh-bye, thanks, have a nice day” when someone leaves your home
18. You can make a sentence using all of the following phrases: “At this time, ” “For your safety, ” “Feel free, ” and “As a reminder”
19. You know what’s on the cover of the current issues of In Touch, Star, and People magazines
20. You stop and inspect every fire extinguisher you pass, just to make sure the “gauge is in the green”
21. Your thighs are covered in bruises from armrests and elbows
22. You wake up and have to look at the hotel stationery to figure out where you are
23. You refer to cities by their airport codes
24. Every time the doorbell rings you look at the ceiling.
25. You actually understand every item on this list

1. You know you have been an undertaker too long when you go to
a funeral for a friend and you find yourself standing in the lobby, opening the
door greeting guests....even though you are seven hundred and fifty miles from
your funeral home.

Possible lost Pirate's shoe.......
Sean Carpenter found this lone tennis shoe on the beach of Sanibel Island, Florida after a storm. Did it come from inland or sea? There may not be a matching shoe if this one belonged to Long John Silver.

Difference of 1st, 2nd & 3rd alarm fires...................
Some where within Facebook, a person asked the differences of 1st, 2nd & 3rd alarm fires. Newark Fire Department's Assistant Chief Dave Decker responded with a brief and detailed description. I just hope know one cares about copyright etc.
- The alarm assignments in Newark are set up for "Residential fires" and "High risk/value" which is a commercial occupancy or multi-family dwelling such as an apartment.
Initial alarm for a single family dwelling is 3-engines, 1-ladder, 1-chief, 1-medic. The working fire announcement gets you an additional engine to act as a RIT crew which is a safety crew, and an additional medic for an EMS sector just in case of any injuries.2nd alarm gets you an additional 3&1 (3 engines - 1 ladder) plus an air supply unit and a chief officer when available. Each subsequent alarm provides an additional 3&1 plus an EMS unit and another chief officer.
Commercial fire assignments are beefier because of the increased fire load and staffing necessary to combat the fire. Initial assignment is a 4&2 assignment. 4-engines, 2-ladders, 1-chief, 1-medic. Again, the working fire gets you an extra engine for RIT and medic for the EMS sector.
Most departments follow something very close to this with 1 exception. Departments in areas without hydrants will have a number of tankers on each alarm to provide water where there are no hydrants .Editor's note: No where in the assignments it mentions Newark Fire's Unit-G, but usually responds to all first alarm assignments. If not, there would be no one present to bother the assistant chief in command.

Lost shoe finding......
Very seldom do I receive a report of a matching pair of lost shoes, but Ron Christ's granddaughter's sharp eye found this pair doing a high wire act at the corner of East Shields & Maple Ave. Good eye, Jocelyn for spotting the shoes!
